Will and I have 3 repairs scheduled for today. One in San Ysidro, CA one in Poway, Ca, and downtown San Diego, CA. Will is the owner of Bumper Remedy. He and I partnered up on this task.
No nightmare repairs so today should be easy going...hopefully. I'll provide photos of the damages and the final results of my work. Let me know what you think!
So the main question before we repair a vehicle is "whats the process to repair a bumper?" Which is my favorite question because bumper repair has become a passion and hobby of mine, not just a job. I explain the process in terms my customers understand, without using the technical mumbo-jumbo even I dont understand. I want my customers to be aware of whats going on with their repair from start to finish.
Ok looks like we just pulled up to our repair destination in San Ysidro, CA and my customer's name is Fred Sobke. He's also a repeat customer. The first vehicle today is a Mercedes Benz 2007 S-Class.
So looking at the quarter panel there is an obvious sign now, that the panel is slightly dented. After wet sanding it, it doesn't seemed to be as bad as I 1st thought. Nonetheless it's a mild 4" horizontal dent. Fred looked at it and decided that he could live with it. So we began the repair. Check out the photos provided for illustration and your viewing pleasure.
The repair wasn't too bad looking but it involves the quarter panel and a little bit of the bumper. Not really a walk in the park. Even the most simple repairs can turn into nightmares so caution is always taken on my repairs.
First I feather out the scrtaches using 320 grit wet sand paper. Next I'll locate an area where I'd want to blend the clear coat since this is just a spot repair. I'll then began the detailed masking with precision to insure no overspray. The surface is cleaned and primered. After primer is properly dried I'll wet sand that area using 600 grit and 2000 grit outside the primered area for clear coat application purposes. The base color (Mercedes Benz C723 Cubansilber) is then applied and blended. So the whole panel doesn't get painted or required. Very little paint is used.
After the base color is professionally applied and blended, I go straight to clear coating, much like lamination. Then blend the clear coat to the desirable location on the panel. A blending agent is use to make this happen. It's virtually invisble when applied.
The repair is completed in as little as 2 hrs at the customer's work location.Bumper King USA saved Fred time and money with my convenient service.
